Join the Queensland Chief Scientist and other sustainability experts for a day of free family fun at the Sustainability and Science Showcase from 10am-3pm, Sunday 19 June, at the Queensland Museum, corner of Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Bank.
Hear the latest research, actions and ideas for protecting our planet and discover exciting hands-on activities for children, exhibits by eco-friendly organisations and universities, live music and the chance to get up close and personal with some Australian wildlife.
Queensland Chief Scientist Prof Hugh Possingham said the Showcase at the Queensland Museum would highlight some positive behaviours we can all do to help our environment thrive. “We know the planet is facing some big challenges – our landscape and climate is changing, and plant and animal numbers are reducing. But rather than focus on the negatives, we will focus on what we can do.
“We can join citizen science projects or environment groups, re-use and repair household items, adopt smarter recycling methods and reduce food waste,” said Prof Possingham. The Showcase will feature two free forums with inspiring speakers who will be sharing their practical tips and insights on using innovations in science and sustainability to protect our planet. Attendees can also learn about the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and take a pledge to help transform our world.
The Office of the Queensland Chief Scientist is delivering the showcase in partnership with Brisbane Sustainability Agency (BSA) to coincide with the global Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress 2022 (SRI2022) taking place in South Africa from 20-24 June and the Oceania Satellite event held in Brisbane on 29 June – 1 July.
BSA’s CEO, Tracy Melenewycz, said the agency is proud to bring this event to Brisbane again for the second year. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents to find simple and effective ways to reduce their environmental impact and live a more sustainable lifestyle,” she said.
