One of Brisbane’s leading contemporary art galleries celebrated the opening of their new riverside exhibition spaces on Saturday 24 August with a group exhibition exploring the relationship between water and art.
The new Onespace gallery is located at 25A Bouquet Street, beneath the Spice Apartments, next to the Go Between Bridge in South Brisbane. Onespace opens with the group exhibition riverine, available for viewing throughout the day in the Main Gallery, and a solo exhibition, gliff, by artist Col Mac on show in the Lounge Gallery.
“We are very excited to show visitors our expanded exhibition spaces in our new location in Kurilpa,” said John Stafford and Jodie Cox from Onespace. “Everyone is welcome to come and see our beautiful new gallery on the riverbend, close to QAGOMA and just across the road from Queensland Theatre, making a dynamic new addition to Brisbane’s cultural precinct. Kurilpa is the Turrbal word for the lands around South Brisbane meaning ‘place of the water rats’. Our artists have responded to this gorgeous location with a series of new works exploring themes of water and the environment in the exhibition riverine.”
The new Onespace site also features a special new Lounge Gallery for smaller intimate displays which will open with the work of emerging artist Col Mac. Miranda Hine suggests that, “gliff explores the history of British painting, from the prehistoric Uffington white horse etched in chalk on an Oxfordshire hillside, to royal portraits, religious scenes, and still life formats.”
The new Onespace gallery will be open for visitors to drop in and have a look from 10.00am – 2pm on Saturday 24 August 2024. The official opening event of the riverine and gliff exhibitions will commence at 5.00pm in the afternoon. The exhibitions will be on display until Saturday 28 September 2024.
