Twelve year old Sofia Barbato will be shaving her head at West End’s Langanis Barber on Saturday 17 March, to raise money for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.

Sofia’s participation in the event stems from the loss of her grandfather four years ago, after he lost his battle to lymphoma, a cancer of the blood.

“I don’t want what I went through, losing my grandfather to cancer, to happen to anyone else, so I’ve decided to do something about it,” said Sofia.

Owner of Langanis Barber Michael Langanis will be shaving Sofia’s head himself, and the Yiros Shop will be catering the event, and also giving out complimentary drinks.

Yiros Shop will also be holding an auction for 10 $50 vouchers with the proceeds made going to Sofia’s donation tally. Brisbane’s Visual Is Go will also be filming and taking photos of the event.

The World’s Greatest Shave is celebrating 20 years of being one of Australia’s largest fundraising events.

People of all ages take part in the event each year, shaving, colouring, or waxing, as well as cutting pony tails, banishing beards and trimming top knots. Some participants, like Sofia, have a personal connection to the cause, while other simply take part to have fun, and raise money for a good cause.
