Australian composer Carl Vine decided a short work deserved a short title and called it simply V, for the Roman numeral. It is witty, edgy and contrarian, with exquisite melodies, with melting emotion lies at the heart of Beethoven’s Concerto. Far from the feisty keyboard style for which the composer was famed, this subdued work requires finesse and grace, performed with Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
