In anticipation of their upcoming sophomore release Langata, Australian live electronic trio Crooked Colours is about to embark on one of their largest and wildest tours to date. With the release of their LP on 17 May just on the horizon, these electronic masters originally from Western Australia will be hitting up regional and metro areas, kicking off with Groovin’ The Moo dates nationally. This will be swiftly followed by their own headline shows in Hobart, Fremantle, Brisbane, Coolangatta, Sydney, Melbourne, then over to New Zealand for two shows in Wellington and Auckland before coming back for their final three dates in Canberra, Wollongong and Newcastle.
Comprising of Phil Slabber, Leon Debaughn and Liam Merrett-Park, these artists from Perth create music residing in both the indie and darker electronic music realms, creating a sublime byproduct. Their debut album Vera reached critical acclaim globally in 2017, indicating that the trio has come a long way since being unearthed by Triple J in 2013.
Their break out singles Capricious, Come Down and Another Way were all placed on constant rotation on Triple J, catapulting them onto the Australian touring circuit. This allowed the band to add some Australia’s most in demand festivals to their resume. Some of these allocated spots included St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Groovin’ The Moo, Parklife, along with supporting slots for RÜFÜS and San Cisco on their national album tours.
On Langata, Crooked Colours have created a new world of atmospheric beats, soft vocals, synths and guitars that move harmoniously. Addictive Bliss is the only outcome, with singles I’ll Be There, Do It Like You and Hold On highlighting their electronic prowess on this record. Special mentions go to the tender Never Dance Alone featuring the fabulous Ladyhawke, as well as the bass heavy I C Light.
