The VIVID Design awards is being held from 18 to 22 July in Melbourne at the Exhibition Centre as part of the Décor and Design show. It is the longest running design competition of its type and has kick-started the careers of many Australian designers. Finalists have been chosen across a large spectrum of design categories including Furniture Design, Lighting Design, Object Design and Concept Design.
One such emerging designer looking to score this year, in the lighting design category, is Tyrone Cleary. When asked why he thought he was in with a chance to take out the award this year, he replied, “Because my lighting is into threesomes!” He went on to explain the reasons his lighting design the ‘one.two’ will sway the judges this year is three-folded. “They look good, they are socially responsible and they reduce noise.”
It is always hard in print to describe visual mediums but he summarised his design by saying, “They have a curvaceous fluted design which is comprised of twelve fins. The fins are made from a dense sound-absorbing textile which are contrasted against Scandinavian inspired designer plywood support rings”.
