Queensland Theatre presents a landmark new stage production of beloved Australian novel Storm Boy. Colin Thieleís cherished yet bittersweet coming of age story brings together the creative forces behind Jasper Jones and The Wider Earth. Adapted by Tom Holloway, Storm Boy features John Batchelor (Red Dog) and Tony Briggs (Black is the New White), directed by Queensland Theatre Artistic Director Sam Strong (Jasper Jones, Hydra).

The production will touch the hearts of young and old with its masterful puppetry and boundless imagination. Young Storm Boy lives a simple yet free life on the coastal wilds of the South Australian Coorong, combing the beaches with his reclusive father, Hideaway Tom. During a long summer, he makes two friends who will shepherd him from childhood into adulthood: the jester Fingerbone Bill, who teaches him about his country, and Mr Percival, an orphaned pelican who prepares Storm Boy for the wider world with a poignant lesson about love, loss and letting go.

For the first time, Queensland Theatre will be hosting a relaxed performance of Storm Boy on Saturday 10 August at 2pm. It is the chance to experience live performance in an informal environment. The creative integrity of each show is maintained, but in a relaxed performance there will be minor modifications to sensory elements like lighting and sound, with a relaxed attitude to noise, doors remaining open and dimmed lights staying on. Relaxed performances are for anyone and are particularly suitable for audiences with disability including autism spectrum conditions, sensory, communication or learning disabilities.
