BEMAC brought BrisAsia to Kangaroo Point for the first time this year, when the multicultural arts organisation hosted two spectacular concerts at the Queensland Multicultural Centre (QMC) on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 February. BEMAC Artist Sudha Manian’s dynamic cross cultural group Yatra kicked off things off on Friday night with a staggering musical odyssey through the history of time, in celebration of Holi Sandhya, which commemorates the Indian festival of Holi at twilight (Sandhya) in celebration of victory of good over evil. Saturday night saw the number one sitar player in the world, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, accompanied by tabla great Sri Hindole Majumdar, all the way from india play to a full house. The BEMAC LIVE concert was co-presented by local sitarist Saikat Bhattacharya, and saw the two Indian Classical Music masters perform live in Brisbane for the first time ever.
