Respected arts administrator, educator and performer, Bradley Chatfield, has joined the Expressions Dance Company board. With more than 30 years as a dancer, maker and administrator, Chatfield brings a wealth of experience to the Brisbane-based contemporary dance company.
Chatfield, a proud Kamilaroi man, is currently Head of Contemporary Development at Transit Dance in Melbourne and most-recently was Head of Dance at the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts in Brisbane and Artistic Adviser and Rehearsal Director at Dancenorth. Before that, he had a celebrated career as a dancer, spending almost 20 years at Sydney Dance Company, as well as performing with The Australian Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet and appearing in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. He has won numerous awards, including an Australian Dance Award, A Mo Award and a Green Room Award, all in 2003, and in 2009 was named in The Sydney Morning Herald’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Sydney.
EDC Chair, Marian Gibney, welcomed Chatfield as a director, saying he would bring a wealth of practical expertise and insight to the board. “Bradley’s experience in dance and dance education and his knowledge of the Australian dance sector will greatly benefit the board, management and the company,” she said. EDC Artistic Director, Amy Hollingsworth, said Chatfield would be an invaluable resource to the company across many areas. “Brad’s contribution to dance in Australia and internationally sees him widely respected by his peers,” she said. “He has great knowledge in dance performance and education, he has done a lot of work in sector development and engagement, has clear skills in leadership and management and a real eye and instinct around how our artform can move forward. We’re so glad he chose to join us.”
Chatfield said he was looking forward to being part of Hollingsworth’s new vision for EDC. “Change always creates a new vibrancy and I’m excited to see the new direction the company is headed in the Australian arts landscape,” he said. “Amy is extremely knowledgeable in the arts and her impressive career has given her invaluable expertise to create and facilitate a dynamic future for EDC. The company has a strong, supportive network and many loyal supporters who are the backbone of the company.”
