Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is calling for Brisbane’s best businesses to step forward in anticipation of the upcoming Business Awards. From product innovations to sustainable practices and emerging leaders, Brisbane’s best businesses and entrepreneurs are to be celebrated at the 2018 awards.
Officially opening the 13th instalment of the prestigious awards program at City Hall, the Lord Mayor said he anticipated another record number of nominations across the 11 categories. “Brisbane is a great place to live, work and relax and is brimming with thought leaders, innovators and problem solvers,” Cr Quirk said. “The awards are one way we recognise the outstanding contribution businesses make to grow our $154 billion economy and enrich our communities. Whether it’s a small business offering an unrivalled service, a new product that is transforming an industry, or a business person who has demonstrated leadership and innovation in their field, I encourage all nominations.”
Cr Quirk said past Lord Mayor’s Business Award winners had gone on to achieve huge success. “Two-time award winner Tritium, now a major player in the production of electric car chargers, is boosting its 150-strong local workforce to meet growing worldwide demand. And since being announced 2017 Business Person of the Year, FRANKiE4 founder Caroline McCulloch, has benefited greatly from the exposure on her innovative footwear business.”
Speaking at the launch, Ms McCulloch, a podiatrist and physiotherapist turned footwear designer, detailed the impact of the recognition on her company. “Winning the Lord Mayor’s Business Award has certainly helped profile our business and push it forward,” Ms McCulloch said. “Money can’t buy the quality of exposure and genuine support I have received. Business opportunities resulted that weren’t possible prior to winning this reputable award.”
The gala dinner will be held on Friday 19 October, and award categories include the CCIQ Award for Outstanding Small Business, ANZ Award for High Growth Business Start-Up, and Singapore Airlines Award for Young Business Person of the Year.
