Nominations are closing for Lord Mayor’s Business Awards, with Brisbane businesses being encouraged to put themselves forward before nominations close on 20 July.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is urging Brisbane businesses to grasp the opportunity and nominate for any of the 10 diverse categories being presented at this year’s ceremony. “The Lord Mayor’s Businesses Awards are the benchmark for business excellence and innovation in our community and recognise the work Brisbane business people do to help create jobs, enrich our community and build our $162 billion economy,” Cr Quirk said.

The Awards present an opportunity to reflect on achievements and growth, and could lead to invaluable business networking and publicity opportunities, however they only come around once a year. Every year, the bar is raised even higher with many former finalists now making their mark right across the world, and Cr Quirk is looking forward to seeing the outstanding calibre of this year’s nominees.

Watkins Steel, winner of the 2017 ISPT Award for Digital Adoption Strategy, can attest to the benefits of winning a Lord Mayor’s Business Award. Now in its 50th year of business, the family-owned steel fabrication company was recognised for implementing a unique end-to-end digital workflow for steel fabrication and installation, and continues to invest in technology. Director Des Watkins said winning the Lord Mayor’s Business Award had increased the business’s profile in the wider Brisbane community. “The award validated the research and development we had undertaken over the years, giving us credibility and reinforcing that we were on the right track with our commitment to technology,” Mr Watkins said.

The Lord Mayor’s Business Awards are staged by Brisbane Marketing. Nominations close on Friday 20 July and the 2018 winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 19 October. There are 11 award categories in total, with eight open to businesses. Two awards are open to individuals, and there will be one outstanding category winners.
