Following Suncorp’s first round of the Digital Incubator Program, two more start-ups have been successful in applying to join the three-month program at Suncorp’s Digital Labs in Brisbane.

The program aims to support innovative Fintech or Insuretech ideas, by directly supporting Queensland-based start-ups in this space. Whilst ‘Eggy’ and ‘Paypa Plane’ were the two start-ups picked after the first round of pitch presentations, the latest round of pitches saw two more start-ups – Athenix and my business manager chosen. Their selection follows a two-day ‘boot camp’ which culminated in a series of pitch presentations by applicants, to a panel of judges including some of Suncorp’s senior technology, banking and insurance executives.

Athenix was founded by Lachlan Teale and Austin Wilshire to help individuals and self-managed super funds improve their investment decisions through innovative use of data and machine learning. The second successful participant, my business manager, was founded by Ian McManus, which seeks to improve financial literacy and deliver management accounting insights for small business owners. For these two applicants, taking part in the 90 day program means they will have access to mentors, designers, data, APIs and experts from related areas such as security, business and technical. This will give them the opportunity to validate their ideas and refine their business models over this three-month period.
