The highly anticipated Discovering Ancient Egypt exhibition is set to captivate audiences when it opens at Queensland Museum Kurilpa this October as it uncovers the mysteries of one of history’s most fascinating civilisations.
Featuring more than 200 objects spanning 3000 years, the exhibition allows visitors to step into the world of pharaohs, gods, and hieroglyphs, and explore meticulously curated artefacts, and intricate objects that offer a glimpse into the daily lives, beliefs, and innovations of the ancient Egyptians.
This exhibition offers audiences a rare insight into the mysteries of the afterlife with five sarcophaguses respectfully displayed. Visitors will be able to peel back the layers of history through recent CT scans conducted on Egyptian mummified human and animal remains, with the results of the analysis being made public in Australia for the first time via a cutting-edge digital interactive.
The collection, considered among the top 10 Egyptian collections worldwide outside its country of origin, is on tour from the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities (RMO) as part of a collaboration between the Western Australian Museum, National Museum of Australia, and Queensland Museum.
Discovering Ancient Egypt explains the history of discovery, and an exploration of why the western world became intrigued by ancient Egypt, and together with the Dutch museum’s archaeological discoveries over decades, unearths the mysteries behind the ancient burial grounds of Saqqara.
Queensland Museum CEO Dr Jim Thompson said Egyptian exhibitions traditionally have been in our top 10 most popular exhibitions and Queensland Museum is honoured to have collaborated closely on Discovering Ancient Egypt. “Whether you’re an avid history fan, a curious explorer, or simply seeking an unforgettable cultural experience, we’re delighted to host Discovering Ancient Egypt before it returns to the Netherlands,” said Dr Thompson.
