What’s in a tattoo? What tattoo would you choose to remember your loved ones if you were travelling across the world never to return? Is our very own ‘generation ink’ heading towards a future of tattoo regret? Join historian Jenny Harrison and documentary maker Ed Howson in Convict Tattoos: Skin Stories, for a conversation that explores the history and symbology of tattoos in 19th century colonial Britain. Discover the evolution of the art form and what its current ubiquity tells us about society today. From navigation tools, religious symbology, jugs of beer, initials and love poems to loved ones left behind, convict tattoos reveal stories of heartache, seafaring and endurance.
