To start off BEMAC’s (Brisbane Multicultural Art’s Centre) 2023 program, iconic singer/songwriter, guitarist, and didgeridoo player Joe Geia takes us through his 40-year career writing and performing songs that tell of Indigenous activism, resistance and transformation. Combining music with storytelling, archival footage and his own visual work, Geia tells the stories of strong Elders and leaders who fought to ensure justice for Indigenous peoples. At a time when the Uluru Statement of the Heart is forefront in Australian minds, Joe Geia and his band tell of the fight for justice and sing to a much-needed transformational change.
