Shakespeare’s intimate tragedy lands in the Torres Strait Islands in Queensland Theatre’s production of Othello. Off the battlefield, Othello’s life is far from simple. An envious, spurned suitor of the wealthy cane farmer’s daughter he just secretly married has joined forces with a disloyal and resentful officer in a deadly plot to bring down the bold Captain Othello. Directed by Jason Klarwein and starring Jimi Bani, this version will give the classic an evocative and effective setting in the Torres Strait during World War II. Othello is a classic tale of jealousy, betrayal, and revenge.
