Timeless – A Brisbane State High School Centenary Celebration
Brisbane State High School and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre have partnered to create a spectacular theatre performance – Timeless – to celebrate the school’s centenary. Timeless will be performed live from Wednesday 1 June to Saturday 4 June at Playhouse, QPAC. Showcasing the creativity and talents of 350 State High students, alumni and staff, this is a must-see show. Through Dance, Music, Drama and Audio-Visual Design, the audience will be transported back in time to discover the parallel stories of State High and Brisbane over the past 100 years.

About Timeless
Set against a backdrop of an ever-changing Brisbane, Timeless flows through 10 epochs of our school’s history: from the birth of the school in 1921 and its rapid growth in establishing years, to the wartime efforts and mid-century revolutions; through its ‘70s and ‘80s cultural shifts and technological advancements, and culminating State High’s gradual but steady emergence into the 21st century as a leader in Queensland public school education.
The stories you will see unfold onstage are based on real people and actual events — the students, staff and their stories — and the defining moments that have shaped this school and the wider community of South Brisbane and beyond. The retelling is based on the meticulous research of the Student Archival Team and the collected memories of State High alumni who generously submitted their stories.
This journey through time opens with an acknowledgement, through physical theatre, music and dance, of the First Nations people who lived peacefully on this land for tens of thousands of years and whose sovereignty has never been ceded. The telling of the State High story concludes with a joyous welcoming of the future generations of students who will continue to weave their narratives into the fabric of our school community. The Moreton Bay Fig Tree — a heritage-listed feature of the school’s lower campus and emblematic of our commitment to the growth of our students — will be the audience’s constant guide through the years.
