More than 5000 people burst into West Village for Brisbane’s third annual Ice Cream Festival‘s four events from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 March.
Starting the event on the evening of Friday 22 March with Up Late, the festival offered two evening events (for adults only) and six daytime sessions across Saturday and Sunday at West Village in West End, home of the historic Peters Ice Cream Factory. Sixteen ice cream vendors and restaurants scooped out more than 60 flavours, including flavours and combinations that were brought to Brisbane especially for the festival.
On Friday night over-18s indulged in delicious treats including ice-cream canapes and dessert cocktails at Up Late. On Saturday night, the Chef’s Playground brought together four local chefs in a challenge to serve two dishes each that highlight all things savoury and sweet. Chefs Philip Johnson, Ben Williamson, William Wallace and Domique Rizzo presented a total of eight innovative dishes, alongside a few glasses of wine, to create an evening that was a grown-up salute to the beloved dessert.
On Saturday and Sunday, three sessions ran each day to ensure as many people as possible get to taste the tantalising ice cream flavours and combinations that filled the Peters Ice Cream Factory. Some exclusive flavours included: guacamole and corn chips ice block, salted caramel, bacon and pecan, coffee and cardamon liquer, roasted garlic, lemon lime and bitters sorbet and Belgian ale.
West Villages onsite Garden Party restaurants also took part, offering Peters Ice Cream Cocktails at Salt Meats Cheese, Butterbing Affogato at Cheeky Poke Bar and Peanut Butter and Jam Bao at Mr Bunz.
