The 30th Alliance Française French Film Festival kicks off Thursday 14 March at Palace Barracks and Palace James Street and with more than 50 films and documentaries screening across the four-week festival.
With a line-up of comedies, dramas, family films and documentaries starring the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Pattinson, Audrey Tautou (who stole the heart of the entire world in 2001’s Amélie), Vanessa Paradis and her daughter (with Johnny Depp) Lily-Rose Depp this year’s festival will be a delight for French Film Festival newcomers and veterans alike.
The festival’s opening night features a screening of one the biggest hits from last year’s Cannes, the screwball comedy, The Trouble With You (En liberté) and there are three other special events taking place throughout the Festival. Wine lovers will indulge in the ‘Taste of France’ event on 27 March – featuring a selection of French wine and cheese before a screening of the documentary Wine Calling. The romantics amongst us will enjoy the ‘Love Wins!’ special event on March 21 featuring a screening of Sorry Angel (Plaire, Aimer, Courir vite), winner of the 2018 Prix Louis Delluc (France’s most prestigious cinema award) as well as a selection of wine & canapés inspired by French flavours. Finally, the Festival will conclude with a cocktail party and screening of Kiss & Tell (Voyez comme on danse) at the closing night event.
