The 2018 QAGOMA Foundation Appeal launched the exceptional 72 panel painting Metafisica Australe at the South Brisbane gallery on Saturday 12 May, a unique collaboration between two leading Australian artists Michael Nelson Jagamara and Imants Tillers. Since 2001 Warlpiri/Luritja artist Jagamara and Tillers have collaborated on 21 works. Metafisica Australe holds special meaning as it reflects on the origins of their collaboration, which developed following Tillers’s borrowing of elements of Jagamara’s landmark painting, Five Stories 1984. The 2018 QAGOMA Foundation Appeal brought this significant collaborative work into the collection, where it found a perfect home within GOMA’s reimagined Australian collection display.
