IES College – An IB World School Opening in Spring Hill in January 2021
A 21-year resident of the education landscape in Spring Hill offering the Foundation Year for The University of Queensland, IES College is now an authorised IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to Year 11 and 12 students.
Building on its proud reputation for delivering high-quality, innovative educational experiences, and an award winning track record of successfully preparing students for university undergraduate degrees, the expansion of IES’s educational programme will see IES College become Brisbane’s only independent, co-educational, secular, not-for-profit school to exclusively deliver the internationally recognised IB Diploma Programme, and enrolments are now open for Year 11, 2021.
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organisation works with schools, governments and international organisations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
IES College’s fully refurbished inner city, vertical campus located at 495 Boundary Street, Spring Hill, is a welcoming learning environment for students. Globally inspired, light-filled spaces for collaboration and socialising, quiet places for concentration and deep thinking, flexible Wi-Fi classrooms that can be transformed for purpose, a research learning centre at the hub of the school, STEM and art studios, performing arts space and more.
The smaller boutique environment provides a personalised student experience, encouraging each student to reach their full potential, feel safe and supported. Bigger isn’t always better. The college takes a whole-of-student-development approach to teaching and learning; the students will simultaneously be challenged, engaged, supported and nurtured. Simply put, the students will be heard. Students are welcome on campus anytime between 8am and 6pm, but classes will only begin at 9.30am, because IES College understands that a later start is what teenage bodies and brains need to flourish.
The IB Diploma Programme curriculum holistically develops the whole student – balancing academic subjects with student led personal development through the CAS programme of creativity, activity and service and an individual research project which prepares students for university level study, all part of strengthening the students’ skills as responsible, independent learners.
IES College has partnered with a range of community groups in Spring Hill and beyond to extend learning beyond the classroom and offer an experiential learning environment. For students, not every day will be spent in the classroom. Many of the activities will take place off campus, outdoors in the local community. Brisbane is our campus! Students will have regular trips to galleries, libraries, museums, industry and technology hubs. Green space, parks and community sporting facilities nearby provide ample opportunities for students to have some downtime from academic pursuits to keep active and healthy. There are so many ways to explore the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme outside of the classroom.
