MS Queensland’s Moonlight Walk celebrates its 21st birthday this year, a milestone that has special significance to Naomi Keast, who was diagnosed with MS just after her 21st birthday. This year, Naomi will again celebrate her 21st birthday at the MS Moonlight Walk.
Starting at the new location of Davies Park West End Naomi, along with her wife and two children will walk with thousands of supporters in the hope to raise $470,000 for MS Queensland. More than 4,500 participants are expected to take part.
The event takes place on Friday November 1 from 6pm, starting at Davies Park West End, offering participants the option of a 3 kilometre, 5 kilometre or 10 kilometre walk with the 3 kilometre and 5 kilometre walks wheelchair accessible. Funds raised through the MS Moonlight Walk directly support people like Naomi who are living with MS by providing vital services such as service coordination, physiotherapy and exercise therapy, psychology, nursing support, accommodation and phone support. Naomi is determined to not let her MS rule her life, she says the support she receives from MS Queensland is vital.
“Without MS Queensland’s support, I think people with the disease would feel alone. I know that I have benefited from their support and I know that I will in future. I’m looking forward to celebrating my 21st birthday again for the MS Moonlight Walk. I’d love for everyone to come along to our birthday party, whether it’s with your family or work colleagues. All are welcome,” Naomi said.
MS Queensland’s Executive General Manager Fundraising, Daniel Lalor, explained that this year’s event promises to be the most exciting one yet, with a new location, extra entertainment and birthday celebrations. “We’re excited to be at West End this year for the MS Moonlight Walk. The new location has a great atmosphere and to continue on the party, we’ll have food vendors and entertainment after,” he said.
