The Queensland Museum has announced its grand opening of the $9.4 million SparkLab Sciencentre redevelopment supported by the Queensland Government with doors officially set to open on Monday 17 September.

The community is invited to a sneak peek of the interactive hands-on gallery which includes 40 exhibits in three zones. The new lab is based on exploration. Guests are invited to explore the world around them via displays and  the new redevelopments and ask themselves big questions like how the world works; how do we perceive our world; and how can we change our world? The idea to discover your inner scientist, test ideas and find creative ways to solve problems is to endorse these skills that engineers and mathematicians use every day.

The family friendly exhibition is created to be educational and full of surprises with an illuminated six foot globe that shows dynamic images of the atmosphere, oceans and land in real-time data. Children will be able to interact and move magnetic liquid into spiky patterns and shapes; create cloud rings, spin in rotation station, touch lightning and maybe even slap out a tune on the thong-a-phone. This is the first major renovation for the Sciencentre since opening at Queensland Museum in 2004.
