Brand new album by Tibetan-born, Meanjin-based global folk powerhouse artist Tenzin Choegyal is coming out on 15 August. Whispering SkyTenzin’s 10th studio album, first began to take shape in his home studio in Brisbane. Taking inspiration from his own Buddhist practice, it was shared and shaped with an international cast of talented collaborators and recorded in studios in Canada, the UK, Japan and Australia.

With each track Tenzin draws on his nomadic roots, skilfully blending elements of Eastern and Western music, while always holding his Tibetan lineage. The result is a deeply immersive album of hauntingly beautiful melodies and evocative lyrics. Tenzin gained his reputation through his vocal skills and unique music style:

“Tibetan singer-instrumentalist Tenzin Choegyal, with a rapid vibrato and volume wattage to put any Italian opera tenor in the shade.”
The Australian

“Tibetan musician Tenzin Choegyal delivered the night’s most revelatory music, playing Himalayan blues and power ballads on the dranyen lute backed by Patti Smith’s band and Laurie Anderson.”
Rolling Stone

“Composer and musician Tenzin Choegyal is well known for his haunting melodies, soaring vocals and an addiction to experimentation. So when I took a seat last night in the Rubin Museumâ’s acoustic theatre for a sold-out show by Choegyal alongside Laurie Anderson and Jesse Paris Smith, I expected to be surprised. But nothing could have prepared me for what was to come: an hour-long journey into the great unknown, filled with visualizations of death, rebirth and the great mystery of awakening”
