“Right now is an absolutely unique and wonderful time to be a Brisbane-based artist,” says Brisbane actor and creative Zoe Houghton.

“Film and TV crews from all over the world, especially Hollywood, are flocking to our shores to utilise the breathtaking beauty of our home and the relative freedoms we have in terms of COVID.” Zoe Houghton has experience in a vast and eclectic range of roles, from the Sydney and Brisbane theatre scene to television and film productions such as The View from Greenhaven (2008), All About E (2015) and Wanted (2016).

“We can offer the landscapes, facilities and the talent that is required to make great art – and it’s all happening on a much larger scale than we’ve ever seen before. There’s never been a better time to be right here in Brissie,” she says. “The tutors are world class professionals who all work in the thriving Brisbane and QLD film, television and theatre industries,” says NIDA Open’s Senior Program Manager, Bronwyn Batchelor.

NIDA Open has responded to the demands of the COVID world, with online courses offering children, young adults and adults the opportunity for creative development at home. Courses are now taking place in our online classrooms, ‘face-to-face’ via Zoom and are supported by a variety of digital learning resources. To maximise learning outcomes, the number of participants per course is limited.

“The demands of online engagement can be challenging with the necessity for online work and schooling and the pressure to engage socially in a cyber world. At NIDA online, we consider those demands and have created an experience that is practical, engaging and fun,” says Senior Program Manager, Bronwyn Batchelor. Classes are delivered in partnership with TAFE Brisbane with a wealth of choice, including the exciting Next Stage courses, a creatively challenging environment for young artists serious about their artistic development.
