A second project has been revealed by the PLACELOVE team who have co-curated a partnership with Opera Queensland, Patrick Nolan, local business owner of Caravansari Turkish Restaurant, Michelle Stafford, the Opera Singer Sofia Troncoso and Conductor Dane Lam.

Internationally acclaimed New York-born and previously London Based artists, Sofia and Dane (principal conductor for the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra are on board to join the project. Patrick Nolan who is the Artistic Director of Opera Queensland is bringing his talent to showcase the project at the iconic and local Caravansari. Both Sofia and Dane fled London when COVID-19 landed so Brisbane is very lucky to welcome their talent to the neighbourhood and they are also very excited to be collaborating in the local project.

Local artist and creative produced Bec Mac, says the project is reimagining the idea of operatic performances within an inner-city urban setting like West End. ” [It’s] an escapist sensory experience for the audience to be transported by the magic of the voice and be taken on a journey,” she says. “Intimate and moving for the paying patrons, a surprising gift for those passing by encountering the singing apparition as they transit the internal external space with their song and their presence.”

The team are in the midst of crowd funding to support the project. At currently 30 per cent with less than a month to go, the team is calling on the community to talk to their networks to connect with those interested in supporting the project. If you are interesting in donating, you can do so via this link: https://australianculturalfund.org.au/projects/chrysalis-01/ or host a little fundraiser or network event for it.

The absolute star that is Jim Gleeson of Plan C hosted a wonderful fundraising event for @chrysalisprojects last Friday 30 October by introducing the concept to a wide range of caring, thoughtful generous people such as Gaden’s Lawyers and QLD Music Festival that donated to the project. Jim embodies what Chrysalis is all about community giving back to the community and all of us investing in each other with love. Dates will be announced soon.
