Brisbane’s best and brightest entrepreneurs have another opportunity to access grants to help them compete in emerging global industries. The second round of the Lord Mayor’s Global Entrepreneur Program, run by Brisbane Marketing’s Digital Brisbane team, offers businesses up to $5000 towards accessing professional programs aimed to help them enter new markets and scale their business. Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the program was an initiative of the Digital Brisbane 2.0 strategy and continued the city’s commitment to supporting top talent. “Brisbane’s businesses have huge growth potential, and the grant will help some of the city’s most enterprising businesses reach new customers, investors or overseas markets,” Cr Quirk said.

“There’s a wealth of great businesses doing amazing things in Brisbane and we want to help them grow as local ventures, to create a ripple effect of benefits for the rest of the community. The program is designed to create new opportunities by enabling recipients to participate in acceleration programs, industry trade shows or obtain professional advice for expanding and scaling.”

Round one of the inaugural Global Entrepreneur program attracted more than 90 applications with 11 successful recipients following a competitive judging process. Round one recipient Tim O’Brien of RaffleTix, an online platform for schools, charities and sporting clubs to host raffles, said the program had opened new doors for him. “We aim to assist thousands of not-for-profits to improve their raffle-based fundraising and the grant is helping us to achieve that goal,” Mr O’Brien said. “The program is helping us connect with, and learn from, the phenomenal talent that exists in the Brisbane technology scene. I’m really proud of the RaffleTix platform and the benefit it brings to our community, and this type of support is invaluable.”

Applications for round two of the Lord Mayor’s Global Entrepreneur Program close on 28 May.
