“What always compels me about Queensland Symphony Orchestra is the sheer physicality of the players: countless bows arcing, the honeyed cry of French horns and the answering staccato of flutes. Besides a technical prowess, it highlights a passion for the music — and for sharing it” – West End Magazine, Feburary 2018.
Queensland Symphony Orchestra presents a diverse program for autumn, starting with Cinderella & Scheherazade on Sunday 6 May in the QPAC Concert Hall. Relax with a mid-morning concert featuring music from classic fairy tales — Tchaikovskyís elegant Sleeping Beauty; Prokofievís irresistible Cinderella; and Rimsky-Korsakovís evocative Scheherazade. On Saturday 12 May the Concert Hall lights up with a spectacular evening of breathtaking music. Rising star Chad Hoopes performs Barberís brilliant Violin Concerto, and the Orchestra bring to life Rachmaninovís vibrant Symphonic Dances.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be live in concert on Saturday 19 May at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Experience the magic of the film while the Orchestra performs John Williams’ spellbinding score live. Mystical & Majestic will charm audiences at the Concert Hall on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June.
Experience a spine-tingling performance of Prokofievís Piano Concerto No.2, a true heart racer spiked with folksy tunes and lightning piano rushes. And for dramatic punch, it is hard to beat Zarathustraís thrilling, brass-fuelled Sunrise fanfare, made famous by Kubrickís 2001: A Space Odyssey.
