New flick Kin is equal parts road movie and sci-fi thriller. It features a cast including Jack Reynor, Dennis Quaid, Zoë Kravitz, James Franco and introduces young Myles Truitt as the film’s protagonist. It is a film about high-stakes and complex characters, and leaves its audience at the edge of their seats from the very beginning.

The film starts with a futuristic battle in an abandoned building and then moves into the suburban, slightly dystopian life of Eli (Truitt) who lives with his strict adoptive father, Hal (Quaid). Eli has a habit of scavenging for scraps at the nearby abandoned buildings for some extra money and it is during one of these searches where he finds a weapon that belongs to an alternate future dimension. It is a fascinating discovery for young Eli but things start to go wrong when his brother, Jimmy (Reynor) returns home after spending time in jail. He now owes a large amount of money to a group of gangsters. Unable to pay off the debt, Jimmy puts Eli and Hal in danger. When things take a turn for the worse, Eli and Jimmy set out on a road trip to Lake Tahoe to escape the gangsters while also finding more trouble along the way, managing to escape with the help of the futuristic gun Eli now carries with him. Two soldiers from this alternate future dimension also follow their trails.

The film is an exploration of family dynamics and dangerous consequences. A futuristic alternate dimension is a reality lingering in the fringes of the film amidst the threat of deadly gangsters and the law. Kin is a film for those looking for some fun and an adrenaline rush. It will hold audiences in its grip, taking them through a thrilling journey filled with action and anticipation.
