Night School (2018) is the latest comedy film starring Kevin Hart, only this time the film is also produced by the star of comedy himself. Night School is one of those goofy comedies, that lets audiences relax, with no deep thinking necessary. A classic popcorn and watch situation. It does have a couple moments where audiences gasped and thought  “gross, did that really just happen?” – and the answer is yes, it did.

The film stars Teddy (Kelvin Hart) a high school dropout who needs a job. His long-time friend Marvin, portrayed by Ben Schwartz, can offer him a job at his financial company – the only catch, he needs to receive his General Educational Development (GED). Thus begins Night School.

At night school Teddy meets a band of misfits with odd memorable quirks, Mackenzie (Rob Riggle), Jalyen (Romay Malco), Theresa (Mary Lyn Rajskub), Mila (Anne Winters), and Luis (Al Madrigal). The crew are taught by their tough love teacher Carrie, portrayed by Tiffany Haddish. Teddy starts to juggle school and working all whilst trying to keep the secret that he is at night school from his beautiful fiancé (Megalyn Echikunwoke).

As a comedy Night School manages to address the important issues of learning disabilities, to which it demonstrates to the audience in an artful way. Ultimately the film is an easy to watch comedy on a Friday night with friends – with a standout comedian cast, there will be some recognisable faces.
