Joseph Swensen conducted Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Romance and Revolution on Thursday 12 September at QPAC, a concert honouring the spirit of invention. The evening included works that broke new ground in their time, from Beethoven’s innovative Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor featuring master pianist Paul Lewis to Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B Flat, a joyous piece overflowing with charm. Australian composer Carl Vine was also celebrated with his five-minute orchestral fanfare V. The delighted audience also enjoyed an encore of Schubert’s Moments Musicaux: VI Allegretto in A Flat Major.
