Brisbane-based film and television industry leader Tim McGahan has won the Channel 7 Award for Business Person of the Year at the 13th annual Lord Mayor’s Business Awards gala dinner at Brisbane City Hall on Friday 19 October.
Tim McGahan is one of Australia’s most prolific film and television industry leaders. Winchester starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren marks his second feature film production, after Predestination starring Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke. Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said Tim, the Managing Director of Blacklab Group, has spent more than two decades building an internationally recognised brand that produces feature films, television series, commercials and digital content. “He has carved out a multifaceted career producing high-end film and television content, including two international and award-winning feature films Predestination and Winchester,” Cr Quirk said. “Working across all arms of the Newstead-based Blacklab Group, from creative development through to financing, production, delivery and exhibition of projects, Tim exemplifies the dedication, excellence and leadership that we look for in a Business Person of the Year.”
Tim said it was a great honour to be recognised as Business Person of the Year at this year’s Lord Mayor’s Business Awards. “Each year these awards highlight the incredible talent and diverse range of businesses within our city. I am proud to call Brisbane home and even more proud that we have been able to create a successful Creative Business based in Brisbane that creates and owns Intellectual Property and produces world class Film and Television watched by people all over the globe,” he said.
Tim’s latest win at the 2018 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards joins his other accomplishments as the youngest ever cinematographer accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Society. He is also involved with equipment rentals and service supply for the film and television industry. The long-term owner of a diverse group of companies, today Tim primarily focuses on the world renowned Blacklab Group, which is highly regarded for its quality and award-winning content.
