A tribute to Greece’s greatest ever composer

His most powerful ballads and popular hits in concert

Born in Greece in 1925, Mikis Theodorakis devoted his life to fighting for freedom and justice for his countrymen. Regarded as the greatest composer in Greek history, Theodorakis used his artform to express the inexpressible, galvanising an entire nation when penning the film score to Zorba the Greek, along with countless other rousing symphonies and ballads. Theodorakis’s long journey ended in Athens on the morning of 2 September 2021 when he passed away.

This special one-night-only concert event celebrates the life of Greece’s most loved composer. International vocalist Dimitris Basis will take to the Concert Hall stage accompanied by a Greek band, a symphony orchestra conducted by the inimitable George Ellis, and special guest Maria Yiakoulis. Basis will perform Theodorakis’s deeply moving The Ballad of the Dead Brother, a reflection on the Greek Civil War, as well as covering Theodorakis’s greatest hits including Zorba.
