WCEI members enjoyed a magical evening of opera performances and captivating conversation at West Village on June 2. Internationally acclaimed opera singers Sofia Troncoso and Eva Kong gave special performances from their upcoming lead roles in Opera Queensland’s production of The Marriage of Figaro playing at QPAC in July. Sofia and Eva were joined by Opera Queensland’s Artistic Director & CEO Patrick Nolan and Megan Barron, Director of Sales, Marketing and Property Management at West Village on the stage to participate in an exciting discussion led by QPAC’s Chair in Arts Education and 2020 recipient of the prestigious Drama Australia President’s Award Professor Judith McLean. Panel members talked ‘everything opera’ from the importance of the arts in communities, to the roles of women in operas and how the upcoming production sets the story of The Marriage of Figaro in a time where what was understood as power is crumbling as a new world emerges. It could be 1786 or is it 2021?
