Internationally renowned physicist Brian Greene will bring his critically-acclaimed show Time and the Creative Cosmos for one night to Queensland Performing Arts Centre as part of World Science Festival Brisbane on Saturday 23 March.

Written and narrated by Greene and co-created by the legendary innovative dance troupe from New York Pilobolus, Time and the Creative Cosmos premiered in New York City in 2017 and featured artists including Renée Fleming, David Draiman, Pilobolus, and Joshua Bell. Time and the Creative Cosmos is a multimedia work celebrating the human spirit of exploration, discovery, and creativity of time and space and is sure to be a highlight of World Science Festival Brisbane 2019. Befitting its Asia Pacific premiere in Brisbane, Time and the Creative Cosmos will feature Australian talent including multi-award winning author, playwright, actor and director Leah Purcell, Cloncurry born Aboriginal dancer, actor and singer Steven Oliver, winner of the second series The Voice Australia Harrison Craig and Brisbane cabaret singer Alison St Ledger.

Best-selling author and Professor of Physics and Mathematics Brian Greene says he is honoured to be able to share the stage alongside a cast of well-known Australian performers. “We are thrilled to be able to bring Time and the Creative Cosmos, which is a celebration of science and art examining our collective longing to transcend the boundaries of space time,” Greene said. “Audiences will experience an inspiring fusion of Australian and international talent that will be on stage to delight, awe and inspire.”

Minister for Science and Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the event would be an Australian first. “Now in its fourth big year, the festival continues to push boundaries in exploring all aspects of science, offering inspiring and transformative experiences,” Minister Enoch said. “This event will deliver an exciting fusion of science and art, presenting the theatricality of scientific concepts on stage with top local and international talent. This production is testament to the stellar reputation of the World Science Festival Brisbane and I encourage everyone to join in the celebration of science. With support from the Queensland Government, the Queensland Museum has secured World Science Festival for Queensland through to 2021.”

Queensland Museum CEO Dr Jim Thompson said the gala event is the true essence of the World Science Festival recipe; taking serious science and making it accessible, enjoyable and awe-inspiring. “Time and the Creative Cosmos promises to be a very special event bringing together great minds in science and the arts that will enthral audiences in their quest to uncover the hidden secrets of our cosmos through poetry, dance, song and music,” Dr Thompson said. “We have incredible scientists and artists presenting a variety of shows for all ages that will encourage visitors to be curious, look at things new ways, and solve problems that one day will benefit our future so I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone to the festival.”

World Science Festival Brisbane is supported by the Queensland Government and features on Tourism and Events Queensland’s It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, worth $800 million to the state’s economy in 2019. In 2019, for the first-time, it is also a feature of Curiocity – a brand new event for Brisbane showcasing science, innovation and technology.
