Environmentally sustainable home wares is at the core for Yo Home as it opens the doors of its first West End shopfront.
Originally focusing on Bamboo fabric products that boast a range of environmental and health benefits, YoHome Founder Yolanda Yang is committed to introducing and providing fabric goods that are of high quality to those who many not have heard of the plant-based material before. “My partner and I fall in love with bamboo sheets and I wanted to introduce them to more people,” said Yolanda. “So I created Yo Home – a place to buy beautiful and ridiculously comfortable sheets that help people sleep better and healthier. Over the past few years, Yo Home has slowly extended to an eco-friendly homeware store but with our main focus still on the bamboo bedding range.”
Passion for fabric has been a part of the Yo Home family for generations. “When I was little, my mum and my grandma always loved to make clothes at home for fun. They showed me all sorts of fabric and educated me on how to judge the quality by checking the weave, colour, weight and even smell… I’m still a huge fan of fabric, I enjoy touch them and judge if it’s comfortable to wear or sleep in if they keep a nice shape after washing & even if it will easily pill or lose colour. About 8 years ago, I first touched bamboo fabric. It was amazing! The first time I wanted to eat a fabric, as it felt so creamy to me. It’s like cashmere or silk but not slippery or overly shiny. After I used the bamboo bedding, I fell completely in love”
A psychical shopfront provides the chance for Yo Home to spread their environmentally sustainable message. “So I do believe a shopfront will provide a chance for people who need to touch the fabric. It is always good to feel the smoothness when it goes through your hand, and you can also compare bamboo and cotton by putting a pillowcase on each of your forearms. Our main bamboo supplier, Bambusa, aim to help reduce the harmful human footprint being left on our planet – they strongly believe in high-quality products that should not have to be produced with a detrimental impact on the environment.
“When dispatching our orders, we do so with minimal packaging to prevent the amount of waste circulating the earth – all of our bamboo bedding also comes within a handy fabric bag (for protection) that we encourage our buyers to reuse. All employees of Yo Home are passionate about our beautiful earth and always have this in the forefront of our minds.”
