West End is one of Brisbane’s most popular and in demand suburbs, and McGees Property has specialised in South Brisbane real estate for more than 130 years.
Rich in history and culture, West End is also one of Brisbane’s oldest suburbs. It was named West End by early English settlers who were thought to have been inspired by the West End of London. The Aboriginal name for the area is ‘Kurilpa’, which means ‘place of water rats’. Throughout the mid to late 1800s West End was predominately farm land, timber mills and some industry. One of the first Hotel licences in Brisbane was granted in 1864 to the Boundary Hotel on Boundary Street. In the 1880s the first row of shops was built in Boundary Street. From the 1890s until the 1930s there was steady industrial and residential development. During the mid 20th century West End continued to see a steady inflow of migrants to the area creating a diverse and multicultural suburb.
It was during the late 1800s that McGees Property first entered the real estate market as Isles Love & Co. Directors Greg, Justin, Gavin and Brad possess a shared vision, focused on their clients. “Our vision is to create wealth for our clients through the delivery of a broad range of innovative, value adding property services, in association with providing the highest level of professional standards,” Greg said. Along with their team of highly experienced and professional staff, the agents deliver local expertise and passionate hands-on leadership.
The team has compiled detailed market analysis deriving average commercial values in the suburb (please note the team has not always had access to the original source material). According to McGees Property, high density residential development sites in the 4101 postcode average $3221 per square metre, while retail tenancies average $4962 per square metre. Currently there is approximately 3619 square metres of office space available for sale, and 4469 square metres of retail space available to lease.
Located in Queen Street, McGees Property has witnessed the demand for inner city living increase, West End having undergone extensive urban renewal with a large number of industrial land sites being redeveloped into high density residential developments; among them the master planned West Village by Sekisui House. Throughout the change, McGees Property will be continue to be committed to the industry.
