Dylan Cattanach is the face and creator of KATANAK, a new project started after his band KB Theory decided to take an indefinite break.  Dylan was the song writer, lead singer and rhythm guitarist for KB Theory in 2018 when their song, Lights of Tokyo reached number 37 on Australian radio 4ZZZ’s hot 100.  KATANAK has been announced as one of the 24 Brisbane artists involved in QUBE run by Brisbane City Council and is looking at taking his music to a wider audience.

January 2019 saw KATANAK perform with Australian artist, Pete Murray, on his Summer Sessions tour 2019. He was the opening act alongside Garrett Kato, playing at sold out shows in front of thousands of people. KATANAK released his first single Life in September 2019, an indieXalt pop song about young love and connection. A collaboration with Keir Nuttall has produced the newest single Astronomy, which will release Feb 2020. The talented musician is a multi-instrumentalist, playing and recording all the instruments on the track’s bed (instrumental); with the vocals the only thing being recorded by engineer Ben McCarthy.

“Astronomy started as a song that was almost about to get swept under the rug, because lyrics or a melody weren’t coming to me,” Cattanach said. ” I’d written the music, played all the instruments and produced this song in my home studio. While recording ‘Life’, my mix engineer Ben McCarthy, was listening to my work, including what is now ‘Astronomy’. He instantly forwarded the beds to Keir Nuttall (Australian composer) so that we could collab. Kier was so excited with the song that within 24 hours he had the lyrics and melody completed and we had a finished product.”  Listen to KATANAK’s music here.
