The Children’s Book Council of Australia has donated boxes of books to Vinnies to encourage and foster a love of reading in children from struggling families.

The 10 boxes of books, chosen from the CBCA’s notable and shortlist collections from 2015 to 2017, will be given to children throughout the year and in December in Christmas Hampers. The CBCA is beloved in libraries and schools across the country with students, children and parents able to vote in the Children’s Book Council Book Of The Years Awards in a whole host of categories across different age groups.

Vinnie’s Brisbane Executive Officer Ray O’Donnell believes the books will bring smiles, entertainment and education for the kids of families who may need a helping hand. “It’s important for us that we can provide struggling families with more than just food or clothing, this type of donation allows us to do that by helping parents bring a smile to the faces of their children,” Mr O’Donnell said. “These books will be given a new life on the bookshelves and in the bedrooms of children in need across our city.”

Children’s Book Council Of Australia National Executive Officer Kate Flamsteed. thinks that the book donation aligns with their key goals of increasing a children’s love of literature. “Donating these books to Vinnies aligns strongly with the CBCA mission to achieve positive social impact by engaging the community with literature for young Australians,” Ms Flamsteed said. “We were pleased we were able to link with Vinnies as we knew that the children who received the books would really treasure them.”

From Sunday 19 to Sunday 26 August children across Australia will celebrate CBCA Book Week with this year’s theme being Find Your Treasure.
