David Bostock, owner of DB Market Group and previous coordinator of the Boundary Street Markets, is bringing his market managerial expertise to a host of Food Truck ventures in West End and Brisbane next month. Currently overseeing food truck events at Norths Rugby Club and The Village Green, the passionate foodie is adding another to his list. In partnership with Maggie’s Football Club, David will be further broadening the West End food scene with a food truck event every second Friday at Davies Park.

Having worked for Jan Power in the past and traveled overseas for eight months on a self-guided foodie adventure, David has ample experience under his belt. It is no wonder the owners of Maggies Football Club, Jim and Barb Mclelland, recruited David to help boost their fundraising as a community organisation. “They called me in to bring some energy and excitement to the place,” David explains.

With a mission to help raise funds for the community, David is passionate about including not-for-profit organisations and other local groups in the markets. “The whole idea is to have a beautiful family destination in a very compact area. Around 20,000 people live within three blocks in this area,” David says. “Most importantly though, I’m doing this to raise money for different organisations.”

David assures that the price point for the markets will not be too high to allow locals to “greet, meet, and eat” without having to splurge. “This will be a great opportunity for people to connect with the chefs and cooks… we’ll have about six food trucks to kick off with and I’ll try and incorporate at least three to four nationalities,” David says.  However, the markets will be offering more than just delicious international fare, as great family-friendly entertainment is on the cards. As well as a jumping castle, the fortnightly event will feature “small bands… light-weight rock and rollers”.

Envisioning a “comprehensive but intimate type environment… a place for people to gather, connect, and enjoy food together”, David has big dreams for the markets. With plans for movie nights and themed events in the future, this new venture is sure to spruce up West End living for a charitable cause.
