Celebrity nutritionist Marika Day, Olympian Brooke Stratton, business woman Patricia Ilhan and Masterchef’s Courtney Roulston are uniting for a free virtual event to discuss allergies.
“Will there be a cure to life threatening nut allergies?”, “How to parent children with severe allergies at school”, and “What are the best allergy friendly substitutes to enjoy our favourite Aussie meals?” are just some of the questions that will be answered at the two-day Free From and Allergy virtual show on Friday 25 and Saturday, 26 September.
Patricia Ilhan, wife of the late John Ilhan, founder of Crazy John’s, will speak with Associate Professor Kirsten Perrett from the Murdoch Children’s Institute. Patricia is fighting to eradicate food allergies, as her daughter suffered a near death experience in 2006, from a terrifying anaphylactic reaction. Today, Patricia self-funds The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation which was founded with her late husband.
Guests can also learn celeb nutritionist Marika Day’s most sought-after tips to managing IBS, a free cooking class on gluten + dairy free scones with a quick blueberry jam by Masterchef’s Back To Win 2020, Courtney Roulston and a live presentation from 26 year old Australian long jump record holder, Brooke Stratton on her journey living, travelling and competing with Coeliac disease.
Gut health dietician, Joanna Baker will follow with a session on ‘What’s causing your digestive discomfort?’ Friday will finish off with a free yoga and meditation session, to release tension within, hosted by Yoke Yoga instructor and former elite athlete, Ryan Mannix.
Virtual attendees will be able to watch series of live cooking classes featuring the queen of healthy desserts and cookbook author, Bridget’s Healthy Kitchen, who will be cooking indulgent yet healthy lamingtons with a gluten free spin. Masterchef all-star and Sydney Swans team chef, Courtney Roulston, will also be a cooking gluten + dairy free scones with a quick blueberry jam followed by a live Q&A.
Plant based nutritionist, Elly McLean will teach Aussies on how to be a digestive detective, what digestive symptoms trying to tell you and how diet influences them. Allergy counsellor, Simone Albert will also host a Q&A on navigating the emotional and psychological impacts of having an allergy and intolerance. Parents of kids with allergies can also watch Jackie Nevard, founder of My Food Allergy Friends, talk on supporting children in peak allergy spring season while returning to school.
Hosted by Australia’s first Free From + Allergy online community, this two-day event is to empower Australians and parents of children who have diet intolerances and allergies. The expo will cover educational discussions for various intolerances such as FODMAP, gluten-free/coeliac, dairy free, lactose intolerant and vegan. Attendees can also directly purchase a range of products that are intolerance or allergy friendly.
