Global workplace designer HASSELL is relocating its Brisbane studio into the former Peters Ice Cream Factory in West Village.

The acclaimed international design practice, responsible for designing award winning workplaces including Sixty Martin Place in Sydney, Sky Central in London and HSBC Hong Kong, has found a new home in the historic foundation piece of Sekisui House Australia’s living heritage village, West Village .

Hassell Principal, Lucy O’Driscoll, said this is an exciting move that offers HASSELL staff all the benefits of working within an already lively precinct. “Connection to the local surrounds and community has always been a consideration for us as well as for our clients, but post-COVID it is more important than ever to ensure that the workplace is somewhere people want to come back to,” Ms O’Driscoll said.

She further stated that the history of the Ice Cream Factory has been reserved. The West Village will provide the public unique and authentic experiences and a 6 Star Green Star community rating that will contribute to their overall wellbeing.

Ms O’Driscoll said structural integration with the community has proven benefits for employers. “Hassell has actually recently undertaken research on changing expectations of the workplace across a sample of 2,300 office workers in Australia, Singapore, US, and UK,” she commented. The survey indicated that a majority of people want to work in a better place that attract them. Moreover, getting the basics including amenity, accessibility and safety are critical when assessing options to meet and exceed staff expectations.

West Village is a 2.6ha living heritage located just 800m from the Brisbane CBD. The 6 Star Green Star precinct will include up to 1000 residences, 14,000sqm of retail and 12,000sqm of commercial office space. Over the past few months West Village has opened its dynamic retail centre including the flagship store for Harris Farm Markets, a full-line Woolworths, restaurants and specialty stores.
