Brisbane’s Institute of Modern Art (IMA) added its artistic touch to The Calile Hotel’s Grand Room for the annual IMA Gala and Benefit Auction on Friday 18 June. Celebrating 46 years of exhibiting exceptional contemporary works from local, national and international artists this year, the Gala honoured two seminal Australian artists: conceptual painter Jenny Watson and the late Laurie Nilsen, a trailblazing urban Indigenous artist, recognised for their significant contributions to the arts. The IMA 2021 Gala is the only event of its kind in Australia where collectors and connoisseurs can revel in displays of contemporary art at The Calile Hotel and bid on covetable artworks in the Benefit Auction with curated artist performances and exquisite special offerings from local restaurants designed exclusively for the event. Participating James Street restaurants include Bianca, sAme sAme, Hellenika, SK Steak & Oyster, Jocelyn’s Provisions and The Calile Hotel. Pieces by leading Australian artists Vernon Ah Kee, Khadim Ali, Mikala Dwyer, Yhonnie Scarce, Judy Watson, Richard Bell, Dale Harding, Daniel Boyd and Tracey Moffatt were auctioned alongside works by major international artists Marina Abramovi?, Heman Chong, Marianna Simnett and Yvonne Todd.
