Any other year would have seen upwards of 300,000 Australians about to head out for camping over the coming Easter weekend, but with the current emergency laws in place it appears that self isolating Australians need to find an alternative.

Caravan Industry says that the spirit of camping does not end here and offers a pretty interesting alternative: Camp at Home Heroes. This new initiative hopes to encourage all Australians to engage in fun camping activities at home: for families, couples or even the mates you live with. While hitting the road to camp is not an option this weekend, there are still plenty of activities you can do from the comfort of your home.

If you have a backyard and camping equipment, why not pitch a tent and roast marshmallows right outside your doorstep? And even if you do not have a backyard to romp in, an evening of sleeping bags, pillow forts and oven roasted s’mores in front of the living room television is a good alternative.

Camp at Home Heroes invites anyone participating to share their home camping experiences on social media and connect with other families across Australia. If you are not quite sure how to get started, it is worth checking out the Let’s go Caravan and Camping page on Facebook and Instagram. Families and individuals have already started to post and share their experiences on these pages, and it is also chock full of tips and competitions. Anyone who would like to get involved is encouraged to post videos and pictures of their home camping experience with the hashtags #holidayathome and #campathomeheroes.

Remember to be responsible while camping. Have fun, but do keep in mind the social distancing rules. That means taking time to enjoy these activities with the people in your household and not inviting neighbours or friends, at least until the Government relaxes the current regulations.
