Take a walk down the aisle at Queensland Museum’s newest exhibition, I Do! Wedding Stories from Queensland, opened on Friday 18 September.

This wedding season, get ready to be swept off your feet as Queensland Museum showcases 180 years of love stories as part of I Do! Wedding Stories from Queensland. With more than 40 wedding outfits, an exquisite range of accessories, photographs and letters, I Do! tells the stories of Queenslanders who celebrated getting married, and also highlights the social, economic and political changes in Australian society over the years.

From rebels and rule breakers to heart breakers, the traditional and unconventional, the exhibition explores themes of Love; Rights, Rites and Rituals; Tradition; Circumstance; and Home and features an array of wedding outfits throughout the years, including the oldest wedding dress from 1840, through to outfits from the 1930s, the 1960s, and today.

The exhibition also features outfits loaned to us by some generous donors, including active wear designer Lorna Jane Clarkson, Brisbane jewellery designer Christie Nicolaides, and former Brisbane Lord Mayor Sallyanne Atkinson.
