Multicultural Australia’s MOSAIC Multicultural Festival took place in Roma Street Parkland on Sunday 10 October featureing an eclectic program of dance, music and the arts, a range of family-friendly activities, and plenty of dishes.
MOSAIC invited everyone to celebrate the vast range of cultures that make up the River City and to be a part of its mosaic of diverse people, offering attendees the chance to come together, learn about other cultures, and create lasting bonds with one another. From dancing with some of South East Queensland’s best performers, international drumming workshops and Rock Around the Wok cooking demonstrations, through to interactive games and music classes for the kids, MOSAIC promises something for all ages.
Music headliners included traditional Mexican band The Mad Mariachi, classical, jazz and gypsy fusion group Cigány Weaver, and world folk jazz band Estampa. There were a range of food stalls celebrating flavours of the world, including a special showcase of African by Saba Abraham, owner of Mu’ooz, surrounded by an atmosphere created by performers including the Queensland World Dance Academy.
“MOSAIC is one of Brisbane’s most iconic celebrations of multiculturalism, bringing together people from all walks of life through a shared love of music and food right in the heart of our
beautiful city,” says Multicultural Australia CEO Christine Castley. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for Brisbane communities to come together to try something new like cooking a different cuisine or taking part in a drumming circle, learn more about the diversity of our neighbours, friends and family, and showcase our city’s commitment to creating a safe, welcoming place for all cultures.
“The festival aims to foster greater relationships and shared understanding between cultures by putting the unique stories and contributions each individual and each community brings front and centre.”
